Right in the centre - Thoughts, lots of thoughts

Sometimes columns come to mind based around one theme. Sometimes, like this week, many thoughts come to mind. 

The first one is that a person can think or believe whatever we want but with one exception. That exception is we can’t make someone else believe or think what we want. That said, what we want or think should be expressed openly and gently. There’s a lot of non-gentle stuff going on these days so gentle and informed discussion is very important.

The world is polluted today with thought dictators and nobody likes them. It doesn’t matter what a person’s beliefs are, they don’t like to be told what they must think, what they must say and, perhaps more important, what they must not say.

Right in the centre - Labels and such

I am convinced that more than ever before in history, we have assigned labels to more things, people and conditions than ever. Labels can be helpful, but they can also be very harmful. It gets further complicated by the fact that we don’t have a lot of control over some of the labelling.

I am  glad to see that the world is catching up with where my family has been at for decades. I hear a lot about equality and inclusion and a bunch of other 21st century buzzwords. Just about every new verbal invention that comes up has some resonance with family values that have been part of our existence for generations.
