Thomas named MJHL player of the month

Parker Thomas of the Selkirk Steelers has been named the Manitoba Junior Hockey League player of the month for September.

Thomas, 20, netted seven goals and 10 points in five games, helping the Steelers go 2-2-1 over that stretch.

Meanwhile, Thomas Ward-Cardinal of the OCN Blizzard was awarded the top blueliner award for the month.

The 20-year-old had eight points (three goals, five assists) in six games, helping the Blizzard win five of their first six games.

Other award winners were Justin McDonald of the Blizzard, who was named the league's top goaltender for the month, while Justin Baudry of the Steinbach Pistons claimed the top rookie of the month award.

McDonald, 20, went 3-0, with a stellar goals against average of 0.99 and one shutout. Baudry meanwhile, had three assists in five games.
