The Neepawa U16 fastball team recently won the silver medal at Softball Manitoba B provincials this July 4-6 at Winnipeg. After going 2 and 1 in the round robin, they came up against Southdale, defeating them 7- 5. In the semifinals, the team won 12 - 4, a game in which Dana Friesen made a highlight reel catch where she dove to catch a deep line drive in left field that popped out of the left fielder's glove. Coming up against Brandon in the finals, it was a hard fought game. The Brandon team came out hard in the first inning, scoring 4 runs but Neepawa responded with a 5run first inning in which Emily Dobson hit a grand slam. It was a close game after this but ultimately, Neepawa fell 9 - 8. The girls never gave up all weekend and often came from behind to pull ahead of teams. Emily Dobson and Abby Krzyzaniak shared pitching duties and the entire team contributed with timely hits and aggressive baserunning.
