Over the past year the Neepawa and Area Pastoral Charge, which includes congregations in Arden, Brookdale, and Neepawa, has been under the ministerial care of Kristin Wood. During that time Kristin was in her final year of studies leading toward her full- fledged status as Diaconal Minister. She successfully completed her studies in March and was officially commissioned as clergy at the annual meeting of the Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario Conference of the United Church of Canada in Swan River on May 25th. The ministry of the United Church includes two streams of training, the Diaconal and the Ordained. The status of the two streams is equal with Diaconal training focusing on education, service and pastoral care while Ordained training focuses on word, sacrament and pastoral care. Kristin has assumed her duties with the lPastoral Charge and brings with her a youthful enthusiasm that will certainly be an asset to her congregations. Kristin has roots in rural Manitoba, MacGregor to be exact, and is pleased to be called to serve the Arden, Brookdale and Neepawa congregations.
Also, of special note at that meeting of Conference in Swan River was the installation of a new President. Barbara Jardine, of Brookdale, was pleased to accept that position of authority for the next year. She will preside over the church conference which includes all of Manitoba and Ontario as far east as Thunder Bay. She brings an enthusiasm and energy to the job as exemplified by her ministry over the last few decades in the area.
