The Neelin Spartans varsity girls volleyball team won the provincial AAAA championship on Monday night.

The Brandon-based high school, led by head coach Kevin Neufeld, defeated the MBCI Hawks in four sets (18-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-20) in Winnipeg.

It was the school's first-ever provincial AAAA title.

Neelin's Amy Gordon was named the tournament MVP.

Meanwhile, MBCI defeated Lord Selkirk in straight sets to win the AAAA boys crown.

Meanwhile, the A, AA and AAA varsity volleyball provincials took place over the weekend.

'A' girls championship at St. Jean

Final: Nellie McClung (Manitou) defeats Hamiota 25-10, 25-21

Third place game: Grandview defeats St. Jean 25-23, 25-23

'A' boys championship at Elm Creek

Final: Rosenort defeats Fisher Branch 25-16, 25-11

Third place game: Glenboro defeats Strathclair 19-25, 25-22, 15-5

'AA' girls championship at Souris

Final: Major Pratt (Russell) defeats Elton 17-25, 25-13, 17-15

Third place game: Souris defeats Minnedosa 25-15, 25-19

'AA' boys championship at Russell

Final: Niverville defeats Green Valley 25-23, 25-22

Third place game: Major Pratt defeats Steinbach Christian 28-30, 25-16, 15-13

'AAA' girls championship at Lorette

Final: Linden Christian defeats Westgate 26-24, 21-25, 15-11

Third place game: Dauphin defeats Calvin Christian 26-24, 25-21

'AAA' boys championship at Ile des Chenes

Final: Gabrielle Roy defeats Hapnot Collegiate (Flin Flon) 25-16, 19-25, 15-11
