If captain Blaine Jarvis has his way, the Gladstone Lakers will be making the next round of the Tiger Hills Hockey League (THHL) playoffs.
Jarvis has scored five goals in two games against the Cartwright Clippers in the conference semi-finals to lead his squad to a 1-1 series tie in a best-of-five series.
The series kicked off Saturday in Cartwright.
Gladstone led 4-2 with 10 minutes remaining, but the Clippers scored three goals within a three minute time frame to take a late 5-4 lead. Gladstone was able to find a late response though, as Jarvis scored with 28 seconds remaining to force overtime.
There, the Clippers’ Tyler Riglin scored just over 11 minutes into extra time to clinch a 5-4 win.
Tanner Waldvogel also had an offensive outburst for Gladstone, notching four assists, while Dan Leslie and Matt Boshman scored the squad’s other two goals.
The best way to improve is to learn from your mistakes, and Sunday night in Gladstone the Lakers did just that.
The squad took the lead and never looked back, clinching a 3-0 win behind a shutout from Devon Ford.
Jarvis scored twice while Waldvogel scored the other.
The series will resume this Friday in Cartwright, with Game 4 being played Saturday in Gladstone at 8 p.m.
Game 5, if necessary, will be back in Cartwright Sunday night.
Two rounds into the playoffs, Jarvis and Waldvogel lead the THHL playoff scoring races. Jarvis has the most goals with eight, while Waldvogel leads with 14 points in four games.
