The Eden Minor Sports Committee is gearing up for its first fundraiser aiming to bring a scoreboard to its community rink.
The group is hosting a pancake breakfast and free skate this Saturday morning, Feb. 22, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Eden Community Hall. The day will also feature a bake sale and silent auction.
“We're hoping community and area families will come out and enjoy the fun-filled day,” committee member Katherine Malfait said of the event.
Cost for the breakfast will be $6 for an adult and $3.50 for children under five years old. All proceeds from the event will be going toward bringing a new scoreboard to the recently revamped skating rink.
“With all of the renovations that have been completed, the facility is great,” Malfait explained. “We don't currently have a scoreboard and that's something we'd really like to see added to the skating rink.”
The rink is currently used for recreational skating, adult and youth hockey.
The Eden Hall and Rink is already a much-improved facility as compared to years' past.
Following a flood in 2010 that saw the basement and rink area flooded, about $250,000 in renovations and upgrades were made to the hall, rink, kitchen and everything in between to return the facility to useability.
Hall organizers have said the rink now almost always has people on the ice and is sometimes kept open until midnight.
