Plumas Mixed Bonspiel 2014

The Plumas Ladies Curling Club held its Second Annual Mixed Bonspiel with 19 rinks entering this year.

There was a good mixture of competitors, and quite a few rinks that were made up of husband and wives playing on the same teams.

Starting on Thursday, Jan. 16, there was a draw made up of the local rinks. Friday saw more draws together with a social at the Plumas Community Hall.

Unfortunately the weather didn’t co-operate and a heavy snow fall saw a smaller than anticipated crowd. However, all that did manage to get through the snow had a fun-filled evening, with great music courtesy of Ryan Simpson, and an amazing silent auction that was completely donated by businesses and people in and around the area.

A late lunch served by Patti Coutts was again a great success, making sure no one went home hungry.

Saturday saw a full day of curling, heading into the final draws that were held throughout Sunday.

The weekend was a great success due to the help of the volunteers, and the Plumas Curling Club would like to say thank you to all of them. Also, we are sincerely grateful to all the businesses and individuals that donated time, money and prizes.

Winners of the first event, sponsored by Cargill Ag Horizons, are Wayne Schettler's rink made up of Wayne and Sharni Schettler together with Armin and Donna Lach, defeating Keith Koncz, Cheryl Hammond, Terry Ursel and Rosie Banyard.  Keith Koncz, as the President of the Men's Curling Club, made the presentations to the winners in all events.

The second event, sponsored by Plumas Lions Club, was won by Jason Schmidt with Brad Lough, Lindsay Koncz and Kevin Klatt, over Tyler Grumpelt's rink of Shauna Fehr, Bryce Cyisk and Bill Banyard. Keith Koncz presented the awards

The third event, sponsored by Courts Seeds, was a family affair with last year's first event winners Morley and Brenda Walker, together with Merv and Brenda Smith, taking on their sons Justin, Tyson and Landon Walker with Jeremy Kreuzter, who was reported as saying "If you want to make a final, get with a rink of Walkers!" Awards presented by Keith Koncz
