The Town of Neepawa has added a new position to its office.
Council has agreed to hire an assistant CAO to support its current staff. At a recent meeting, the new position was explained as being needed to complete the workload at the Town office.
The exact salary range of the assistant CAO position has not been set and will be subject to negotiation, current CAO Richard Beachey explained to The Neepawa Press last week, but the lower limit of the salary is expected to be about $60,000 per year.
Meanwhile, the Town's economic development officer (EDO) Rick Donaldson continues to be on medical leave.
Council granted Donaldson a leave of absence around the beginning of 2013, with the leave expected to end in the spring of 2013 - according to a resolution made by council in early 2013.
CAO Richard Beachey explained the EDO's absence and the creation of the new assistant CAO position are not connected as, "the Town has not discontinued the position of EDO nor incorporated the responsibility into the assistant CAO position."
Advertisements for the new assistant CAO's position are in this week's edition of The Press.
Rocky Mountain moving
Another of the Town's visions is one step closer to becoming a reality.
At a special meeting of council held Sept. 24, Neepawa's council accepted the sale of 15 acres of Town-owned land to Rocky Mountain Equipment for $75,000.
The 15 acres sold is part of 60 acres of land owned by the Town located east of town, along Neepawa Road (near the Town's old dump). The land was originally purchased in 2002 - when Mayor Ken Waddell served his first term in office - for a price of $84,000.
The Town's vision for the land is for it to become an 'industrial park' to be developed for local businesses.
Rocky Mountain expects to begin construction on its new building at the site early in 2014.
During the council meeting, Coun. Robyn Copeland noted Rocky Mountain Equipment employs about 20 people, and this sale will ensure those jobs stay in the Neepawa and Langford area, with tax dollars generated going to the Town of Neepawa.
