Neepawa golf pro Landon Cameron is one happy camper when describing how well the town's golf course performed this golfing season.
Last year, Neepawa's golf course and many others around southwestern Manitoba were affected by a severe flood. Neepawa's course in particular, didn't open until mid-May. However, this year there were no flooding issues to the Neepawa course as crews worked on several holes alleviating any issues prior to opening last April.
"We've had a pretty good year," said Cameron. "The course came back in really good shape from what had happened last year."
The course was able to host every event scheduled this year, including fundraisers such as the Stella Finds a Bed for Zedo event and the Support Local Hockey tournament.
"Everything went great in these events and it was nice to see the community support such deserving charities," said Cameron.
The club was also able to host this year's Manitoba Rural Amateur golf tournament in early August. The two-day tournament was the first Golf Manitoba major event held in Neepawa for quite some time. Neepawa was supposed to host the Manitoba Men's Amateur last year, however flooding caused the event to move to Portage.
Cameron says he couldn't have gotten the course into tip-top shape without the help of course members and local supporters.
"We wouldn't be one of the best courses in the province without your continued support," he said.
Cameron says the course restaurant will be shutting its doors on Oct. 14, while the course itself may stay open for a few more days depending on the weather.
Neepawa is scheduled to host the provincial men's amateur event in 2013.
