The NACI Tigers track team is gearing up for its trip to the 2013 Nike High School Grand Prix national competition and is coming closer to its fundraising target of just over $9,000. As reported late last year, 13 male members of the track team have been selected to represent Team Manitoba at the grand prix event. As part of their fundraising efforts, the Tigers have teamed up with Neepawa’s Legion Ladies Auxiliary to hold a roast beef dinner at the Legion this Friday, March 15. Supper begins at 7 p.m. and plates are $8 in support of the Tigers track team. “We’re really happy to have these community groups interested in supporting and helping our team fundraise,” parent track committee member Gary Salmon said. “It’s a great opportunity for these boys to get to go to a track event like this, and the community response has been great with donating to help make it more affordable for them.” In the meantime, the track members continue to practice regularly over the winter - even while many members take part in other sports as well - to prepare for the national meet and spring track season. “They’ve really been working hard at it and are taking it very seriously,” Salmon pointed out. The 2013 Nike High School Grand Prix is set to take place May 11 at the University of Toronto.
