Members have been busy the past couple of weeks. A vehicle with a burnt out headlight was stopped and the odour of 23 grams of marihuana was evident. The driver got a ticket for the headlight and will be appearing in court for the drug charge. Another driver was stopped and discovered to be driving while suspended and in possession of 15 grams of marihuana, a pipe and a grinder. A third driver was stopped because of a burnt out headlight. He and the vehicle reeked of marihuana, he failed the field sobriety test and was issued a 24 hour suspension of his driving privileges, as he was impaired by a drug. A non-working tail light resulted in a vehicle stop where the driver blew an “Alert” on the alcohol screening device and received a suspension and fine for the open case of beer in the vehicle. Another driver went through a check-stop, admitted to drinking, failed the alcohol screening device test, failed the subsequent breath test at the Neepawa detachment and was charged with impaired driving. Yet another driver was charged with driving while impaired by drugs and driving an unregistered vehicle. Members also seized marihuana from two separate traffic stops. On the traffic side of things, members handed out 17 speeding tickets, with our Speeder of the Week going 135 kilometres per hour. Other tickets were disobeying a red light and a stop sign, driving with a burnt out headlight, driving while disqualified and carrying liquor in a vehicle.
