Like Father, Like Sons

The William Morton Collegiate Institute's boys curling team pulled off a rare feat when they hosted the Provincial Curling Championship recently, scoring an eight-point end in the 7th end in a game Friday, Feb. 8. What adds even more intrigue to the accomplishment is that the team's coach, Wayne Schettler, who is the skip's and lead's dad, also got an eight-ender during a bonspiel on the same sheet of ice 25 years earlier. Left photo, the rink that got an eight-ender 16 years ago includes, Wayne Schettler (skip), Keith Koncz (third), Jason Schmidt (second), and Kevin Klatt (lead). Right photo is the rink including the second generation of Schettlers to accomplish the feat, from left, Taylor Schettler (skip), Tyler Grumpelt (3rd), Ryley Dayholos (second), Bryce Cisyk (alternate), Carter Schettler (lead).
