It looks like Stella's found that bed for 'Zedo'. Just over one year after creating their Stella Finds a Bed for Zedo Fund to raise money to purchase a giraffe isolet bed for St. Boniface Hospital's Neonatal Unit, Ryan and Corrie Ford, along with their supporters, have accomplished their goal. The giraffe isolet bed helps nurture premature babies to health. The Fords began fundraising for the bed in August of 2011, after their prematurely born child Zdeno passed away. Zdeno had to wait two weeks until the proper isolet bed became available, but passed away at just over three weeks of age. As a result, Corrie and Ryan turned their loss in to something positive and began fundraising to help families in their position in the future. Just over a year later, in November of 2012, the initiative reached the $34,728 amount needed to purchase the giraffe isolet bed. Just recently, the bed arrived at the Neonatal Unit so Corrie and Ryan went to see it. “When we were there, the bed was already being used. It was so good to see it there and to know that baby was able to get that treatment it needed,” Corrie said. “Everybody who worked in the Neonatal Unit was so grateful. “We just want to say thank you to the whole community.” While the fundraising support was a miracle in itself, the Fords recently received another miracle on Sept. 4 - their daughter Rapunzel Penelopy Joseffene Ford. Rapunzel spent 1.5 weeks in an isolet bed and four weeks total in hospital. She is now healthy and at home with her family.
