Shirley Emily Stewart
November 25, 1944- January 5, 2013
It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Shirley Stewart in her home on January 5th, 2013. She was 68 years of age. Shirley was born in Neepawa, MB on November 25th, 1944, the eldest daughter of Fred and Irene Zuke of Glenella, MB. Shirley received her schooling in both Tenby and Glenella schools. After getting her education she moved to Winnipeg to look for employment. Shirley worked as a Health Care Aide for 2 years at King George Hospital. In 1962 she married Glen Stewart of Gladstone, MB. Upon the sudden death of her father she and Glen returned to Tenby to assist her mother in running the family Gravel Construction business. In 1966, Glen and Shirley moved to Gladstone. After the children were grown, Shirley worked at JB's Drive Inn. From there she managed the Hotel Restaurant staffing a full service restaurant and making home cooked meals like only Shirley could. Shirley's love to cook and care for people took her on a journey out west to Kelowna. She found herself running a hostel where she met many people and had the time of her life. She returned to Gladstone and took her Health Care Aide and was then employed with Seven Regions Health Centre. It was during this time she met her new partner in life, Dennis Wiebe. Dennis and Shirley were a fun couple to say the least. Not only did they enjoy each other's company, they enjoyed the company of their many friends. This was evident with gatherings that lasted well after the last Bingo number was called. Besides entertaining, Shirley's love for the casino took them on many weekend trips to try their luck at the various casinos and Dennis' love for the lake had them spending summer weekends at his cabin on Otter Lake.
Shirley's door was always open to family and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed entertaining. She was a great cook and baker. No one ever left her house hungry. Even in failing health Shirley's love of company remained strong. She would never turn down a game of thirty one or a chance to take your quarters.
She was predeceased by her father Fred Zuke; mother Irene Gardiner and step-father Fred Gardiner.
Shirley will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by Dennis Wiebe children Bev Chandler (Charles), Dean, Darrin (Karen); sisters Judy Dilk (Wayne), Donna Allen (Dale), Dianne Zuke; grandchildren Ryan Chandler (Diana), Brittany and Paige Chandler, Danielle, Derrick Stewart (Jill), Jordan Stewart (David); l great grandchild Madyson Chandler and several nieces and nephews. She really loved her dog Griz and will be greatly missed by him.
Funeral Service was held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Gladstone Christian Fellowship with Pastor Randy Fehr officiating. Interment followed at the Gladstone Cemetery.
