NFSC's Todoruk, Forgue medal in 'Peg

Kaiten Critchlow/ Neepawa Press

Zoie Forgue is one of a handful of Neepawa Figure Skating Club skaters performing well at competitions over the past couple months.

An update from the world of figure skating! In November Amy Todoruk and Zoie Forgue competed at Skate Winnipeg Super Skate competition. Amy won a bronze medal in the Novice women’s short program while Zoie won a silver in jumps and a bronze in her freeskate program in the Juvenile under 14 age category. The 2013 Skate Canada Manitoba StarSkate North and South Westman Regional Competition was held in Melita, Man. on Jan. 12. Unfortunately due to road conditions, not all of our skaters were able to make it to the competition. Lara Denbow won a silver medal, Madison Kilburn skated to a fourth place finish and Claire Tomoniko and Allie Jakubowski skated wonderfully in the Pre-Preliminary 8 and under event. Emma Salmon skated well after weeks off due to injury in the Interpretive Pre-Introductory event. In the Interpretive Bronze event, Samantha Salmon won silver while Bethany Bertholet skated to a fourth place finish. The Neepawa Figure Skating Club is hosting the 2013 Skate Canada Manitoba StarSkate Championships on March 2 and 3. Skaters from our club that are competing throughout that weekend include: Jaylin Joss, Zoie Forgue, Allie Jakubowski, Madison Kilburn, Claire Tomoniko, Lara Denbow, Jenna Beaumont, Kelsey, Kara and Karissa Ellis, Brooklyn Chartrand, Bethany Bertholet and Emma and Samantha Salmon. Our synchro team, Lil’ Ice Prec*Ice will also be performing at the opening ceremonies. NFSC is still looking for volunteers to help host this wonderful event which will bring in roughly 200 skaters to our community. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Marsha Forgue at 841-2051.
