Neepawa Basketball League; Week 3: Gilas stun Huskies

Canada Gilas and the Neepawa Huskies battled it out to the most exciting finish of the week in Neepawa Basketball League action Dec. 23, with Gilas hitting a late shot to take the lead and pull off the upset in the dying seconds. Riuza led the way for Canada Gilas with 22 points while Zumbillia added 11 points and Balloh poured in 8 points. Jovic Macatimpag led the way for the Huskies with 18 points, while Samson Emralino had 12 points and Reynante Cabacungan added 10 points. Young Guns 75 - Master Cutters 49 Hymie’s Young Guns had a full roster show up for the first time this season and it paid off with their first win of the year. Leading the way for the Young Guns was Keith Babcock’s 17-point effort while Joey Boy had 11 points and Caines added 10 points. Balabat led the way for the Master Cutters with 11 points. Catunan had 10 points and Borlaos added 8 points to round out top scorers. Aces 63 - Beermen 55 The Portage-based Beermen faced its first loss of the season while the Aces grabbed their first win of the season when they matched up over the weekend. Guray led the way for the Aces with a week-high 26 points -14 coming from free throws - while Angelo Tamorada, 11 points, and Velasco, 10 points, rounded out top scorers. The Beermen featured a rounded attack with nine different players getting a basket, led by Carolino’s 12-point performance and Santos’ 10 points. Neepawa Bison 70 - FTW 49 The Bison moved their record to 3-0 on the season with a convincing 70-49 win over For The Win (FTW). Gutierrez, 12 points, Edward Bustria, 10 points, and Ginez, 9 points, led all Bisons scorers on the afternoon. FTW was led by Lecaros’ 15-point game. San Diego, 9 points, and Monterola, 8 points, rounded out its top-three scorers. Dods 67 - Kill Floor 52 The Kill Floor Hoops weren’t able to find the edge Sunday afternoon as Dods topped them 67-52. Led by a great team effort, no Dods players reached double figures in scoring but 11 different players reached the scoresheet. Giedrieus and Urpianca led the way with 9 points each. Kabigting topped all Kill Floor shooters with 20 points and Cristobal put in 10 points. Albinos 72 - Monterey 41 The Albinos also kept their record perfect on the year after defeating Monterey 72-41. Arlan Fleming scored 16 points as the Albinos leading scorer while Kaiten Critchlow scored 15 points and Chase Critchlow put away 10 points. Alisbo was the only Monterey shooter to reach double digits in scoring with 11 points. de Leon added 7 points and Damaybay put in 5 points. Next action The Neepawa Basketball League didn’t play the weekend of Dec. 30 but heads back in to action this Sunday.
