The NACI Tigers Junior Varsity girls basketball squad has claimed its second major tournament title this season. Over the weekend of Dec. 15, the Tigers won their six-team home tournament with their closest game coming with a 29-point win over the Virden Golden Bears. NACI started the tournament with a dominant 92-29 round robin performance over Brandon's Crocus Plains Plainsmen. The Tigers were led by a strong team effort defensively, while six players – Danielle Hanke, Halle Hayhurst, Shelby Gillies, Brooke de Koning, Dariane Roe and Lina Gordon – reached double digits in scoring. The Tigers followed up that effort with another impressive win, 65-36 over the Virden Golden Bears in the final round robin game. The squad moved the ball well offensively, and Brooke Anderson poured in 15 points and grabbed five rebounds while Halle Hayhurst scored 16 points with eight rebounds and four steals. The two-win, no-loss record left NACI sitting in first place in their pool and clinched them a spot in the tournament finals against Grandview. There NACI played yet another great game, working its way to a 50-point, 65-15 win over Grandview to leave the weekend as tournament champions. Lina Gordon scored 18 points with seven rebounds while Danielle Hanke added 12 points and five assists.
