80 years ago Tuesday, Nov. 8, 1932 Signs of spring!! George Pede brought to the Press office a dandelion in full bloom, picked in his yard on Saturday, Nov. 5. 70 years ago Thursday, Nov. 12, 1942 Birnie dedication service. A special feature of the service Sunday night was the dedication of the Hydro lights in the church. Mrs. C. V. Impett, who presented the gift, switched on the lights. Reverend W. L. T. Patteson gave a short address of thanks and appreciation and a dedicatory prayer. Mrs. C. H. Bailey, president of the W.A., in a few words of warm appreciation, expressed the feelings of the ladies association and desired that they be kept to shed light, symbols of the master’s light. 60 years ago Thursday, Nov. 13, 1952 Another Hope Chest Night, an annual project of the Women’s Hospital Aid Society, in its drive for funds, came to a successful conclusion on Thursday, Nov. 6. Receipts totaled $1,200, which will be used to purchase linens and equipment for Neepawa and District Memorial Hospital. The Roxy Theatre was filled to capacity for the event. 50 years ago Friday, Nov. 9, 1962 Ratepayers of the Town of Carberry and the Rural Municipality of North Cypress gave a solid okay to the proposed $195,000 extension to Fox Memorial Hospital on Monday, Nov. 5. Over 85 percent of the eligible voters exercised their franchise, giving the by-law 690 votes in favor and 86 votes against. Only a 60 percent majority was required to approve the by-law. 40 years ago Thursday, Nov. 9, 1972 Months of planning, hard work and co-operation by many citizens of Neepawa and district, were rewarded on Tuesday, Nov. 7 when the Yellowhead Arena was officially opened. The Neepawa Lion’s Club Band with conductor Brian Bailey entertained as the 1,200 enthusiastic and happy patrons thronged into the arena. The official guests and dignitaries gathered on a carpet on the ice at the west end of the rink for the ceremonies. C. H. (Bud) Hanson took charge of the program and effectively introduced the various officials as they offered their congratulations and brought greetings. 30 years ago Thursday, Nov. 11, 1982 Any notion there may be a by-pass around Neepawa in the near future was laid to rest at a meeting held Nov. 2. Over 40 concerned citizens, councillors and members of various business associations expressed a strong concern over the effects a by-pass would have on the town of Neepawa. Councilor Bob Durston acted as chairman for the meeting and explained how a series of rumors and incidents led to concerns a by-pass was being planned. He said five years ago when the planning district was created, a Department of Transport recommendation was included that suggested a by-pass be considered at some time. 20 years ago Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1992 A benefit social was held for Yvonne and Kelly Robertson and their two sons this Saturday in the Yellowhead Centre. The Robertson’s lost their farm house, located 13 miles south-west of Neepawa, to a fire Sept. 24. 10 years ago Monday, Nov. 11, 2002 The Town of Neepawa will lose over $9,000 in annual revenue with the demolition of the Agricore elevator. The grain handling and farm supply company was taxed $9,300 yearly – money that will now have to come from another source, said Neepawa mayor Bob Durston. “We hope additional businesses will come to town,” Durston said. ”If not, it (the lost revenue) will be spread over everybody.”
