The NACI Tigers junior varsity girls volleyball squad gave its fans something to cheer about at their home tournament held last weekend. The girls lost their first game of the tournament, dropping back-to-back sets in a close game with Hamiota where both sets required extra points. NACI bounced back to sweep the final three games of the round robin - beating Hartney (25-12, 25-14), Nellie McClung (25-5, 25-5) and Souris (25-11, 25-16) - to clinch a spot in the tournament’s finals. There, they got a rematch against Hamiota and didn’t squander their opportunity. NACI won the first set 25-14, while Hamiota responded by squeezing out a 25-21 win in the second set, forcing a winner-takes-all set to 15 points. The Tigers proved to be strong in the clutch, and won the final set 15-7 to claim the tournament. Souris defeated Hartney in the third place game. Lina Gordon had 17 kills, 10 aces, 14 digs and six blocks in the tournament, while Danielle Hanke came away with 34 assists and 23 digs. In total, the team had 36 assists, 15 blocks and 25 aces throughout the tourney.
