80 years ago Tuesday, Oct. 25, 1932 Driving along the highway and observing the mangled remains of so many rabbits, one wonders what kick the motorist gets out of running over a helpless animal blinded by headlights. Is it just a demonstration of the human “lust to kill”? We prefer to believe that few of these wild things are deliberately killed. Motorists are as human as anyone else. – Guide from Killarney 70 years ago Thursday, Oct. 22, 1942 Word was received here at the weekend through the British War Office that Captain George Alexander MacKidd, previously reported missing after the Dieppe action in August, is now a prisoner of war in France. His wife, Freda Lorraine MacKidd, resides at 24 Langside Street, Winnipeg. At the time of the Dieppe raid, Captain MacKidd held the rank of Lieutenant. Forman elected over sitting councillor H. Lloyd Francis. The final count showed Forman with 105 votes to Francis with 93. McKenzie and the late General Snell with the former winning out. 40 years ago Thursday, Oct. 26, 1972 The Neepawa field office of the Department of Mines, Resources, and Environmental Management was officially opened on Wednesday, Oct. 18, with Dale F. According to keynote speaker Reverend Bruce Miles, we inherit a set of values as children. These values tend to become bewildering and sometimes confusing. Parents need to understand these values, and what effects they have on the children. Miles told the crowd of parents and teachers peer pressure is one of the problems facing our youth. He said parents should realize this fact and learn to “trust” their kids. 20 years ago Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1992 Betty Kozak of Neepawa is one of four Manitoba women competing for the Canadian Women’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Kozak owns and operates the Silver Thimble, a fabric and craft store in Neepawa. The business was opened in 1984.
