More and more people are leaning towards the married life in Neepawa, and the town has significantly more single, never married men than single ladies, according to the latest census information released by Stats Canada. The stats - which come from the 2011 census but were just released - point out that of the 3,115 people living in Neepawa aged 15 and over, 1,890 of them are either married or living with a common-law partner. As compared to Neepawa’s census stats in 2006, that number is up by 285 people. Meanwhile, there are less divorced, separated, widowed and single (never married) people living in the community than five years ago. According to the census, there are now 70 separated (10 less than 2006), 145 divorced (30 less), 350 widowed (85 less) and 660 single, never married (25 less) people in town. Of those, the biggest splits for gender gap occur in the single and widowed categories where widowed women outnumber the men 295 to 55, and the single men outnumber the women 390 to 270. The latest census also points to there being more private households with married couples that have no children, than there are with children, in Neepawa. There are 1,010 families living in private households in town, 885 of which belong to “couple families”. Overall, there are a total of 805 children in census families in private households in town. Of the 1,465 private households in town, 440 have only one person living in them while 555 have two people living in them. Meanwhile, there are 195 three-person homes, 175 four-person homes and only 95 homes with five or more people living in them. There are 3,400 people living in private households in Neepawa, which means there is an average of 2.3 people per private household in town. *Note: The census term ‘single’ refers to individuals who have never been legally married.
