The Neepawa Storm women's soccer club brought its season to an end last week with games at The Flats Tuesday against Rivers and Thursday in Brandon against the Snipers. Tuesday Neepawa battled its way through the game but wasn't able to find itself on the scoresheet. Meanwhile, Rivers put one away in the first and added another goal in the second half to earn the 2-0 win. In Brandon Thursday, Neepawa faced off against the Westman Women's Soccer League's second-best squad in the Brandon Snipers. Neepawa came out with enthusiasm in what was a very balanced and well-fought first half. The Storm were able to create a few chances in the meantime, but weren't able to put any away to take the early lead. The second half started off on the wrong note for Neepawa as the Snipers scored their first goal less than two minutes in to take a 1-0 lead. Brandon added another goal in the 60th minute to extend its lead to two goals. Neepawa wasn't ready to bow out of the game though, and it battled back to put a few more balls on net. In the 75th minute Jody Jury raced down the right side of attack and put a hard shot on goal from the wing. Brandon's keeper made the save but Jen Byram found the rebound and put it away to bring the Storm within a goal at 2-1. Brandon was able to squander Neepawa's momentum shortly after, scoring in the 77th minute to clinch a 3-1 win. “Our ladies showed a lot of heart in the final game of the season,” coach Kaiten Critchlow said. “They went head-to-head with one of the league's best teams for the first 45 minutes on both offense and defense and were actually pretty close to taking a lead into the half. In the second half we really used our counter attack well but Brandon was able to find their scoring touch and earned the win. “All in all, I was really proud of the way the ladies played this season and the way they finished out the year.”
