Natives snap 14-game losing skid

Kaiten Critchlow/Neepawa Press

The Natives faced off against the Portage Terriers amidst their losing streak last week. Neepawa has since snapped the streak against Dauphin.

Apparently the 15th chance was the charm for the Neepawa Natives, as they ended a 14-game losing skid Monday afternoon at the Yellowhead Centre.
Neepawa dropped the visiting Dauphin Kings 8-5 to earn the win, battling behind a strong effort from goaltender Alex Henry who faced 55 shots on the night.
Derrick Brooks had a hat trick and five points, while Robby Moar poured in two goals with three assists and Dylan Dock had five helpers to lead Neepawa offensively.
Shane Harrington, Nolan Jago and Rhett Law also tweaked the twine for the Natives in the winning effort.
Dauphin and Neepawa swapped goals in the first period, ending it tied at 2-2. The two teams then swapped markers before the two-minute mark was even reached in the second frame, but Neepawa exploded for three unanswered goals - all within a four-minute span - seven minutes later to take a 6-3 lead.
Dauphin and Neepawa both found the net twice more to end the scoring at 8-5 in Neepawa's favour.
Neepawa will now finish out its regular season this weekend with a home game against the Waywayseecappo Wolverines Friday and an away game against the OCN Blizzard Saturday.
