Former Neepawa minister pleads guilty to indecent assault

Former Neepawa minister George Cargo has pleaded guilty to indecent assault for a 1979 incident.

The guilty plea comes after Cargo was scheduled to appear in Kamsack Provincial Court yesterday, Feb. 7.

The incident is alleged to have occurred in Saskatchewan's Togo district in 1979.
The charge is worded as per Criminal Code guidelines followed at the time the offence is alleged to have occurred. Today's terminology would have the charge referred to as sexual assault, Kamsack RCMP said

In a release, Kamsack RCMP said a 38-year-old woman reported the incident to police last July. This was the first time the woman had informed the police of the allegation.
The woman would have been seven years old at the time of incident.

Neepawa's RCMP detachment assisted the Kamsack RCMP in the investigation of the allegations.

Cargo was living in Canora at the time of the 1979 incident.

Cargo is scheduled to appear in Kamsack Provincial Court April 10 to be sentenced.
