No, the barricades on Railway Avenue will not be permanent.
Barricades erected to repair water lines in April are still there four months later, prompting a number of complaints by nearby homeowners.
Heavy rain and inclement weather have delayed Town of Neepawa workers from replacing the current dead-end water pipes with a looped system.
However, Neepawa CAO Allison Bardsley said the Town hopes to have the job finished soon.
"We are scheduled to start the second half of the plan on Aug. 23, and we hope to have it all finished by mid-September," she said.
Bardsley said, the four street section of town currently has a dead-end water system, which allows for some of the water to sit at the end of the pipe for longer periods of time, lowering its quality. Looping the water would create a more continuous flow, leading to a higher quality of water.
The current dead-end system also has led to drainage issues causing hazards such as frostboils and ruts in the road, so the city also plans to change the drainage pattern.
"We want to create positive drainage," said Bardsley. "Drainage to get the water off the road and into ditches and culverts."
Although there are no plans to pave the road, Bardsley has high hopes for the finished product.
"We have worked out what we think will substantially increase quality of both the water and the street itself."
Barring more weather troubles, the barricades should be down before October.
