As August rolls by and schools get ready to open for the fall, Manitoba's Youth Job Centers are getting ready to shut down until next summer after helping over 30 000 people find jobs this year through over 40 offices just like the one located upstairs at 282 Hamilton Street.
"It's been a really great success every year, but this year especially," said Jocelyn Harder, the Office Manager in Neepawa's Job Center. "MYJC (Manitoba Youth Job Centers) really worked hard this year expanding into Carberry and showing a more active presence in schools, which allowed us to help more people."
A major focus of the MYJC is the 'Odd Job Squad,' a program that helps students, usually aged 12-16, find work over the summer, as well as helping people and businesses find much needed help.
MYJC does more than just help people find jobs though.
"We like to really get involved in town-wide events," said Harder. "This year we helped organize the kids carnival, which was the biggest yet this year, as well as playing a part in the Lily Festival and Canada Day celebration."
The Job Center in Neepawa does offer its services to people of all ages, not just young students. Although the 'Odd Job Squad' is the major focus, Harder says it's only a fraction of what they offer.
"We help with everything, from secondary education assistance to individual resume writing sessions."
Although the MYJC is shut down for now, Harder will reopen the doors next May.
