Simon says it's safe

Neepawa Mayor Bob Durston squared off with outspoken Councillor Monty Simon over the need for a new Neepawa Volunteer Fire Department building.

Durston took issue with Simon's categorization at previous council meetings that the building was unsafe. Late last year, Simon went as far as to suggest that the fire hall was, in fact, a fire hazard.

"I don't want to see the day when Minnedosa has to put out our firehall,” Simon said during a 2009 council meeting.

However, following Durston's comments, Simon said safety was not the issue.
"Yes, the hall is structurally safe. It is the lack of space we are worried about," Simon said.
