On June 25 - 27, Richard Reiner and Tyler travelled to Fargo for the 38th Fargo Moorhead American Legion Invitational tournament. Tyler was playing with team Manitoba Youth Selects.
They won their first. game vs. Detroit Lakes 4-2 with Tyler getting the save, then lost next four games, but considering the other teams were under 19 years old and they were swinging aluminum bats, the boys were very competitive with the American teams.
On July 1, Richard and Vidette, Bernard and Regina Reiner, and Murray travelled to Winnipeg to watch Tyler play at Canwest Park. They won the first game vs. Elmwood Giants 4-2 with Tyler getting the save. They lost to Carrillon 2-1.
On July 10, Richard and Tyler were in Winnipeg for the youth team exhibition game vs. Junior AAA all stars, after which the final cuts were made. Tyler survived the last cuts and has been given the job as the teams closer for the Canada Cup in Kindersely, Sask. from Ćug 11-16. He has a perfect record 3-0 since taking on the role in the pitching rotation.
The youth select are Manitoba's elite under 17 years team and will be competing at the Canada Cup which is used to scout potential players for Canada's National Junior team, as well as for university and college programs throughout Canada and U.S.A.
Spending a few days with Jim and Gail McGregor, while here for the Andrew family reunion on July 3 & 4 were Colin and Carol Burton from England. Alex and Coral Brown and Sandy of Penticton, B.C.
Arleen Drysdale of Edmonton and Sherri McGregor of Brandon. Approximately 90 relatives were at the hall on Sat. for lunch and supper. Most of them went on a tour of the old homestead (were Willie Cymbalist used to live) the Edington school cairin and St. Helen cemetery.
Sunday started with a church service followed by lunch then games before and after supper held at the fair grounds. Several decided that they should do it again next year.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Madill who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday. Approximately 80 family members and close friends gathered at the senior hall for a pot luck supper and visiting. Their children were all home. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Madill and family from B.C. Beth's sister Alice and Tony Haslbck of Brandon, brother Gordon and Kathy Lietch of Winnipeg and Isabella and Clarence Madill, Sam and Ellen Leitch plus many nieces, nephew and cousins.
Weekend guest with Jim and Gail McGregor were Florence Singleton and son Rodney and friend Carrie of Moorehead, Minn. while here for Tom and Beth's anniversary.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ken Oswald who celebrated their 40th anniversary on July 10 in the senior drop in. Their children were all home except son-in-law Jeff Campbell. Ken's sister Bev Hicks and friend, Rita Pubben of Winnipeg. Joanne's bridesmaid and husband, also Jack Kielen of Sasktoon who was an usher.
Jack Kienlen will be remembered as the U.G.G. elevator agent here 40 years ago and also coached little league ball. Jack was a Saturday overnight guest of mine, at about midnight my son Gordon and Chuck Perrett came and spent a couple hours with Jack.
