The museum has continues to have good attendance for the early summer season. We have had visitors come from as far as Scotland, Korea, British Columbia and as near as the next block over. The museum board members and I enjoyed giving tours to 44 very interested Grade 2 students as well as 13 students from Rolling Acres Colony.
We have had various new items donated lately which include; a very heavy railway spike hammer, railway signal lantern, ladies mink shawl, a box of Glovers Sarcoptic Mange Medicine (a dandruff control medicine) and more. My favourite new donation is three very fashionable hats from early years. People sure don't wear hats like they used to.
The Apron Show and display which ran from June 19 to July 3 was a success that received many positive comments. On the opening day we put on a fashion show along with a tea. We had aprons being modeled from turn of the century to the '70s. The aprons came from as close as the nearest apron drawer and as far away as Germany. There were more than 100 unique aprons on display that included work aprons, everyday chore aprons, day-to-day aprons, as well as fancy fashionable ones for the 'hostess with the mostest'. I had a fun time being the Emcee for the event and would like to thank my super models Sheila Bremner, Taylor Hall, Barb Gagnon, Val Jarema and Chelsea McPhee. I would also like to send a big thank you to Helen Drysdale and the Museum board members for putting on the show and to those who donated aprons for the show.
The museum is now entering its busier summer months, so we are now open Monday to Saturday 9 to 5 as well as Sunday 1 to 5.
At the museum there are many things to see from the basement up to the roof, so don't miss a chance to visit a great place that is just in your backyard.
