Although not quite official, the Town of Neepawa may have turned a profit following the Manitoba Homecoming Celebrations in May.
Rick Donaldson, Neepawa economic development officer, said he expects to be able to deliver good news.
"It looks like we made a profit," Donaldson said.
Town of Neepawa chief administrative officer, Allision Bardsley, said that on July 20 she will be delivering the final numbers to council.
"We have done very well and our final report will be given at next council with all the definite final figures," Bardsley said.
Leading up to the Homecoming festivities, there was much speculation that the event was in dire financial circumstances despite winning a $50,000 grant.
"Its a common misconception about the money, everyone thinks: ‘Can they not bring something together with that $50,000', and people don't realize how much everything costs,” Amanda Cathcart, Neepawa leisure services manager, said in April.
“Bringing the Snowbirds alone is $27,000.”
"We have tried to initiate corporate sponsorships, we haven't received nos, which is good, and we have received sponsorships from some we didn't expect... that is nice to see," Cathcart said.
At the time, Cathcart said that the Town was not trying to make money through the event, just to cover costs, as well as to ensure most, if not all, events were free of charge to the public.
