Her feet are sore and her body weary but Army Corporal Mackenzie (Mac) MacLeod is pressing on with her mission to run the equivalent of nine marathons over nine days to raise awareness of the service and sacrifice of Canadian soldiers serving and who have served in Afghanistan.
MacLeod began her run in Dauphin on Canada Day July 1, and has made her way through the communities of Ste Rose du Lac, McCreary, Neepawa and Minnedosa.
After reaching Brandon (kilometre 183 of her trek), she doubled back to Neepawa by vehicle to continue her journey from Neepawa to the communities of Gladstone (yesterday), Portage La Prairie (today), Headingley (Thursday) and then Winnipeg (Friday).
Cpl. MacLeod’s run will also raise funds for non-profit family support groups of Manitoba-based military units that provide assistance to troops deployed overseas, those in rehabilitation, their families and to The Wounded Warrior Project.
Cpl. MacLeod is a member of the Fort Garry Horse, an armoured reconnaissance unit located in Winnipeg.
Donations will be accepted along the route and all donations received will go directly to the designated local Military Unit Family Groups and the Wounded Warrior Project.
Information on donating by cheque or money order is available on the website - www.patriotforce.com
