"Why worry about those dugouts on main street?" asked a facetious citizen of the press editor. "They will be soon grown up with weeds to hide the junk that will eventually accumulate."
This fellow offered the suggestion that if the property owners along the street would cooperate and plant sunflowers, we should soon have the most handsome avenue on the map of Manitoba. To reside on sunflower avenue, Neepawa, would be a distinction in local citizenship. Thanks are due to the Town council for the cantankerous course in making such a condition possible.

A large crowd was in attendance at the congregational meeting held in the United Church Wednesday evening. Reverend J.W. Cruikshank was chairman and Ms. D. Pratt, pianist. The most important item on the program was the burning of the mortgage. Mrs. W. G. Cox, past president of the Ladies, carried the silver containing the mortgage to the front of the church and presented it to Mrs. J. A. Shearer, also a past president, who held the tray for Mrs. James Hill, Igniter. After the ceremony, a very comical skit "No means yes" was given by Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Ray, J.E. Sigurjonsson, Mrs. Guinn and Wesley McAmmond.

An exceptionally high wind early Sunday morning caused extensive damage to trees in the area, ripping branches from many and actually breaking a number of good sized trees off just above ground level. Accurate records of wind velocities during the blow that continued from approximately 7:00 to 7:30 a.m. are not available because of a power failure that put equipment out of commission at the meteorological radio station at the airport.
At the time of the power failure, the wind was blowing at 52 miles per hour with gusts, the latter probably reaching 60 - 65 mph.

To rental property owners, the provinces newly revised property taxation system just doesn't add up.
At least it doesn't add up fairly, according to Jim Davies of Neepawa. Davies, who owns Hamilton Place in Neepawa, says owners of multiple residential units in the province have been hit with a tax increase ranging from 37 to 51 per cent.
The tax bill on his 12-unit apartment jumped 41 per cent, an increase of $5,316.
