Another year of school is finally done and students are anxious to make some extra spending money for the summer months. The Gladstone and area Odd Job Squad continues to grow in numbers as more and more students sign up. The month of July, which is also Hire-A-Youth Month, will be a busy month for the Odd Job Squad as there are many events planned. Homeowners and business owners are encouraged to call the Gladstone MYJC if they are interested in hiring a youth for any odd jobs they may have.
On July 1, the Odd Job Squad will be holding a Canada Day hot dog sale in conjunction with the town-wide celebrations and ball tournament that are scheduled to take place the same day. The Odd Job Squad hot dog sale will be held at the fair grounds in the big booth which is located next to the ball diamonds from 10 a.m. till 7 p.m. While enjoying the Canada Day festivities, stop by the booth for a bite to eat and to support your local Odd Job Squad. We will also be taking orders for our annual strawberry pick at the booth as well.
Orders for the annual Strawberry Pick are now being taken at the Gladstone MYJC office. This year we will be heading to Patten Acres in Portage La Prairie on July 13th to do the picking (weather permitting). July 14th will be the rain date for the Strawberry Pick. Orders can only be placed through the Gladstone MYJC office, so please do not hesitate to call the centre at 385-3197 to place your order. The Odd Job Squad has a limited number of pails to sell so place your order early to avoid missing out!
Though the Odd Job Squad is keeping busy for the summer months, there are still many mature students and youth that are seeking employment as well. Those interested in hiring a summer employee are encouraged to call the Gladstone Manitoba Youth Job Centre to take advantage of our free referral service.
Any questions or suggestions? Feel free to call Steph at the Gladstone MYJC at 385-3197 or email the centre at myjcgladstone@live.ca. Office hours are 8:30-4:30 so don’t hesitate to stop by and inquire about the Centre.
