Recycling depot treated as dumping ground

Neepawa public works councillor, Ron Forsman surveys the problem that is becoming more apparent after residents have continued to abuse the Neepawa Recyling Depot with unaccepted material.

Toilets, televisions, computers and propane tanks are just some of the items found at Neepawa's recycling depot, TAC Ventures.

Jack Falk, owner and manager of depot, said he's disappointed that people are abusing the use of the depot and dumping what is garbage for him to clean up.
"I'd like people to start having some respect. Take time to learn how to recycle properly," Falk said.
Falk wants to get the message across that he cannot recycle electronics, porcelain or propane tanks.
"Evergreen Technologies is set up for these types of items. I currently have 36 propane tanks, and each time I go to recycle these, $200 comes off my revenue. All of my bins are marked clearly as to what can be dumped, and when,” Falk said.

Falk notes that the province has its own set of rules for recycling, and Evergreen does as well, he would like a hard and fast set of rules stating what is and what isn't recyclable so people know how to recycle properly.

"I would like to see the Town of Neepawa take some interest in what is going on out here. Let's take the time to educate use. This has been going on since I took over two years ago, it needs to stop," Falk said.

Ron Forsman, public works councillor, said that everyone needs to be made aware of what is going on.
"There are rules set in place, they are abusing the system.
“Let's work together to combat this problem," Forsman said.
