Two people miraculously escaped with their lives on Friday night, when a Fedoruk gravel truck loaded and a Pontiac Sedan driven by Oliver Coultier crashed in an almost-head-on collision a few miles east on the Union Road. The car was considerably smashed up. The truck was headed west on the wrong side of the road.

Calmly and factually and without a parent rancor, a resident of the town Monday night told Neepawa council that he'd been given to understand that the cost of obtaining a water connection for his proposed new house would be $600, that price tag has been hiked to $1,500, now that the house is built and the water and sewer lines installed.
Gerald Murray told town council flatly that he would never have built where he did if he'd been told in the first place what the cost of obtaining the services was going to be. He wouldn't have built even if the cost were only a little over $1,000 he said. A descrepency between the original estimate and the actual cost was noted to works superintendant, K.D. McClelland admitted he had been "quite a bit out."

Services at the cenotaph and the cemetery will give all citizens of Beautiful Plains an opportuntity to pause and pay tribute to those who fell in wartime, as well as those veterans who have passed away in peacetime. Many of their lives shortened by the hardships of war. Tribute will be paid to the pioneering men and women who had the vision and courage to open up the Beautiful Plains around Neepawa.

A $2.45 million improvement project hasn't made East View Lodge perfect. “We're a lot closer to perfection than we were," says Herb Osmond, administrator of the 125-bed personal care home. Osmond said he was delighted with the improvments resulting from the project, which was funded by the Manitoba Health and Service Commission.
"Obviously, we have better capabilities now,” Osmond said just before Tuesday's official ceremony, celebrating the project's completion. "We waited a long time for this. The wait was nearly 10 years"
