QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Timeouts, really only a pause in the action

The adventures have continued, but did you expect anything less?

Let me ask you a question, how many times can a two-year-old lose his boots in the mud?

Answer: Enough to lose track of, which means numerous muddy socks, water filled boots, mud covered shoes in place of the boots. mud soaked clothes and lot's of laundry.

Now let me say, I ran out of my precious blue bottle laundry secret and when trying to get the stains out with other products they just didn't work as well, so back to the store to buy some, and out came clean clothes after.

I sang praise let me tell you, and I now know to never put off buying this cleaner again, it is not ok to go without it.

What does a boy do with a bowl of pretzels, a popsicle and a banana?

Mix them all together for a lovely mush to pour onto the coffee table and then want one of each of the foods again separately. I think not sweet boy, one bowl of this concoction is enough.

Timeouts have been happening more and more, mainly due to Jake being more adventurous and finding out his limits. The cutest one happened over the weekend, he had to be put on timeout for throwing his toys at the wall, so to the stairs
I took him to sit for two minutes.

Well I was in the living room doing some tidying and while he was sitting he kept getting up and poking his head around the corner with a wide smile on his face, I would tell him to stay sitting so he would sadly go back to the step and when he thought I wouldn't be looking he would do the same thing. Back and forth we went, head poking around corner with smile than sad look going back to stairs.

Wow, did he have energy when he could come off of his timeout, and he began running laps around the house. Maybe an olympic runner in training? Nonetheless, the running also meant some trips and falls, but that did not deter Jake from continuing until he was wore out from the running and instead he jumped on the couch and kicked his legs in the air looking like he was riding a bicycle while laughing and saying 'mommy I'm flying'.

Ok, flying, sure I can play along with that so we took an imaginary trip to Toopy and Binoo's magical world, his favourite show on Treehouse. I love playing imaginary games with Jake and we had a lot of fun.

There is nothing, and I mean nothing cuter than a two year-old singing along to songs in the vehicle.

I turn around and hear him singing the words to songs I had no idea he knew, it's amazing how fast they catch on! I'm so happy he shares my love of singing in the truck on drives though, it's a great bonding experience.

Last but certainly not least, Jake wanting to mix food like I do when I cook, took his supper plate one evening, took out the small one cup food processor I have, poured his supper into the bowl and screwed the lid on and proceeded to press the button.
Of course, it was not plugged in, so nothing happened, and this frustrated him.

Now Jake had no supper, no whirl of noise from the processor but he decided pouring milk into the machine was a good idea.

Note to self, never leave Jake with milk, supper plate and easy access to small food processor, bad combination and very messy.
